Texas Lutheran Lights Up Dallas 8-0

SEGUIN, TX -- Texas Lutheran Men's soccer lit up the Gustafson Field scoreboard Friday night securing an 8-0 conference victory over the Crusaders of the University of Dallas. Nicolas Medina (Houston/St. Pius X) scored two goals as 7 different Bulldogs found the back of the net.

The Bulldogs move to 7-5-1 (3-3 SCAC), while the Crusaders fall to 5-7 (2-3 SCAC).

This is just the latest high scoring effort from a Bulldogs team that has been extremely comfortable at home - averaging nearly 4 goals per game at Gustafson Field. The 8 goals made for their second highest scoring effort behind August 19th's 9-0 home victory over McMurry.

Texas Lutheran began the scoring barrage with a Luis Green (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley) goal via an assist from Jorge Ugaz (Cibolo/Clemens) in the 14th minute. Green got his teammates involved in the 31st minute finding Jared Esparza (Cibolo/Steele) for the Bulldogs' second goal of the match. 2-0 is where the score would stay through halftime, but the Bulldogs would take it to another level in the 2nd half.

Jair Ortega (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) would get the second half action started in the 52nd minute before Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford) followed with a beautiful David Beckham-esque goal in the 56th minute from a free kick opportunity - his first goal of the season. Ortega would find Santiago Quinonez (Chihuahua, Mexico/New Braunfels) to move the Bulldogs ahead of the Crusaders 5-0 in the 60th minute. Nicolas Medina would score back to back unassisted goals in the 69th and 73rd minutes to extend the Bulldogs lead to 7-0. After finding Luis Green early in the match, Jorge Ugaz would score a goal of his own via an assist from Luis Zamora (Conroe/Conroe) in the 86th minute for the Bulldogs final goal of the game as Texas Lutheran dominated the Crusaders.

As impressive as the Bulldogs offensive firepower was, scoring on 8 of 11 shots on goal, they were just as dominant defensively only allowing one shot on goal and three shots total over the course of 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Caleb Weed (San Antonio/Warren) tallied a save on the Crusaders lone shot on goal.

The Bulldogs return to the pitch Sunday for Senior Day vs. Austin College at 2 PM. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
