Men's Soccer Falls to No. 2 Trinity

SEGUIN, TX -- Texas Lutheran Men's Soccer lost to the 2nd-ranked Trinity Tigers, 3-2, on Friday night at Gustafson Field in Seguin, TX.

The Bulldogs are now 4-4-1 while the Tigers improve to 10-0-0.

Junior Joao Maia (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/American School of Brasilia) scored the first goal of the match at the 38 minute mark. Friday's goal made for Maia's first career goal. The 1-0 score is where the score would stay entering halftime as the Bulldogs upset bid still had a chance of coming to fruition.

Trinity swiftly turned things around in the second half - scoring 3 goals in 7 minutes to open the second half to take a 3-1 lead. Freshman Cole Kennett (Missouri City/Ridge Point) responded in the 77th minute with his 3rd goal of the season - shrinking the Tigers lead to 3-2. The Bulldogs fought valiantly in a tightly contested, high intensity match but the Tigers were able to maintain their 3-2 advantage and avoid the upset.

The Bulldogs outshot the Tigers 9-7 and held the 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. The heated game had 24 fouls between the 2 teams and 3 cards - 2 yellows for the Tigers and one for the Bulldogs.

Texas Lutheran returns to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 2:30 PM, as the Bulldogs face Schreiner University in SCAC competition at Gustafson Field. Sunday's game will be a "Pink Out" game for Men's Soccer in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
