Wills Finishes Day One in Sixth, Bulldogs in Fifth Place at SCAC Championships

LAKE WHITNEY, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's golf team registered an opening round score of 23-over par (311) to sit in fifth place after day one of the 2024 SCAC Championships at White Bluff Golf Resort. Junior Tobey Wills (Richmond/Foster) led a back-nine charge Sunday evening with two birdies and is tied for sixth in the individual standings with an opening round score of 2-over-par (74) entering Monday's second round.

The SCAC Championship features two teams ranked in the latest NCAA Division-III regional rankings, including nationally ranked Schreiner. The nationally ranked Mountaineers (+6) hold a seven stroke lead over second place St. Thomas (+13) and a ten stroke lead over Trinity (+16). Regionally ranked Southwestern is in fourth place.

Two more Texas Lutheran golfers find themselves joining Wills in the top 25 following Sunday's opening round. Wills is in sixth, three strokes behind leader, Centenary's Andrew Bennett (-1, 71). Freshman Tyler Givilancz (Schertz/Clemens) is tied for 16th with an opening round score of 77 (+5).

Luke Friedeck (Cibolo/Clemens) finished round one tied for 21st, finishing the day six-over par.

The SCAC Championship continues with the second round tomorrow, April 22. Texas Lutheran will be paired with Dallas and Centenary for Monday's second round with tee times beginning at 8:30 AM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
