Texas Lutheran Sails Past Southwestern, 88-79

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- LaDarius King (Austin/St. Stephen's Episcopal) matched his career high with 24 points, including a career-high six made threes, as six Bulldogs found themselves in double figures as the Texas Lutheran men's basketball team earned their first win of the 2024 calendar year and first road win of the season with a 88-79 win over Southwestern Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs (4-15, 3-7 SCAC) had a season-high six Bulldogs in double figures led by King, who also recorded four rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks. Easton Allen (New Braunfels/Marion) would ride his hot hand from Saturday into 16 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Xavier Phillips (Austin/Dripping Springs) finished with 14 points and a game-high four steals. Teddy Tapken (Austin/Lake Travis) and Semaj Edwards (Lanham, MD/Oak Hill Academy) would tally 11 points while Carter Lewis (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) would lead the bench with ten points.

Texas Lutheran led for all but 5:21 of Tuesday night's contest, thoroughly controlling the game throughout, never trailing in the second half.

After a back and forth start, TLU would carry a 41-34 lead into halftime.

TLU would shoot an efficient 65% in the second half as they would never lose their lead - stretching it to as many as 17 points.

The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 57.8% (26-of-45) and made 16-of-26 three-pointers (61.5%) - a new season-high.

Texas Lutheran will be back in action Sunday, Jan. 28, as they return to Memorial Gymnasium for the first time in 2024 as they welcome Colorado College to Seguin.
