Bulldogs Fall to Southwestern, 81-68

SEGUIN, Texas -- DJ Ardoin (Houston/Pearland) scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed three rebounds but Texas Lutheran suffered an 81-68 defeat at Memorial Gymnasium to Southwestern on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs moved to 10-12, 5-8 SCAC while the Pirates improved to 8-14, 4-9 in the SCAC.

Texas Lutheran struggled on the boards and from beyond the arc - hitting only 6 of 23 three-pointers while shooting 41.4 percent overall and trailing 47-26 in the battle on the glass.

The game was back-and-forth throughout with the two teams leading a nearly identical amount of time. The two teams would play a tightly contested first half with the Pirates taking a 35-34 lead into the break.

Hot shooting from the Pirates in the second half would doom the Bulldogs. The Pirates shot 56% in the second half, including 14-of-16 from the free throw line to keep the Bulldogs at bay and limit a Bulldogs comeback. With the game tied 65-all with 5:26 remaining, TLU would be outscored 16-3 down the stretch to lose their fifth game in a row.

Up next, Texas Lutheran prepares for their final home game of the 2023 season as they welcome the Colorado College Tigers on Friday, Feb. 10. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM CST at Memorial Gymnasium. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
