Bulldogs Fall 74-64 to Rival Trinity

SEGUIN, Texas -- Riley Fornerette (Surprise, Ariz./Dysart) and DJ Ardoin (Houston/Pearland) combined for 28, with Fornerette leading all scorers with 17 points, but Texas Lutheran suffered a 74-64 defeat at Memorial Gymnasium to rival Trinity on Friday night.

LaDarius King (Austin/St. Stephen's Episcopal), making just his third appearance this season due to injury, joined Fornerette and Ardoin in double figures - scoring a career-high 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting.

In a meeting between two rivals separated by less than 40 miles, the Bulldogs moved to 9-7, 4-3 SCAC while the Tigers improved to 12-4, 5-2 SCAC.

Texas Lutheran struggled to make shots, hitting only 7 of 28 three-pointers while shooting 36.2 percent overall, denying the Bulldogs a second consecutive win over Trinity.

Trinity led for all but 23 seconds of Friday night's contest. The two teams would play a tightly contested first half with the Tigers taking a 36-34 lead into the break.

Fouls would be the story of the second half as the two teams accumulated a whopping 31 fouls resulting in 41 free throws between the two teams. Trinity would convert 18-of-26 attempts from the charity stripe in the second half while shooting 50.8 percent from the field, never trailing in the second half.

Texas Lutheran returns to Memorial Gymnasium Saturday, Jan. 14, at 6 PM against the Schreiner University Mountaineers. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
