Texas Lutheran Edged, 68-65, By Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs made a fierce comeback attempt but fell just short to the Colorado College Tigers, 68-65, at Reid Arena in Sunday evening SCAC conference play.

Xavier Phillips (Austin/Dripping Springs) led Texas Lutheran with a team-high 19 points while adding four rebounds, two steals, and team-high three assists. Riley Fornerette (Surprise, Ariz./Dysart) pumped in 17 points and added a team-high four steals and Easton Allen (New Braunfels/Marion) had 15 points while leading the team with nine rebounds.

Colorado College was in control through most of the first half, but Texas Lutheran would stay in striking distance throughout the opening period. The two teams would go back and forth exchanging leads over the final three minutes with TLU taking a one point lead into halftime. Easton Allen dominated the first half with 12 points and seven rebounds in the opening half.

Colorado College began the second half on a 23-8 run to take its largest lead of the game, 51-37, with 10:24 left. From that point, the game featured one tie and two lead changes. Texas Lutheran battled back as Riley Fornerette scored 11 straight points for the Bulldogs to shrink the lead to single digits as TLU launched a 19-6 run to bring the game to 64-63 with 2:20 remaining.

A driving layup from Xavier Phillips following a Tigers turnover tied the game, 65-all, with 1:24 remaining. This is as close as the Bulldogs would come, never being able to overtake the Tigers in the closing moments.
