Bulldogs Get Past LeTourneau in OT, 74-72

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran came out on top in a back-and-forth affair Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium, outlasting the highly-touted LeTourneau Yellowjackets in overtime, 74-72.

Texas Lutheran and LeTourneau played to a stalemate through the first two minutes of the overtime period, with Yellowjacket forward John Argue breaking the tie with two free throws with 3:03 remaining in OT.

An Isaac Orozco (Helotes/O'Connor) free throw shrunk the lead to one with 2:13 left and Riley Fornerette (Surprise, AZ/Dysart) would split a pair of free throws to tie the game 72-all with 53 seconds remaining.

Riley Fornerette would make a driving up-and-under lay-up with one second remaining, his lone field goal of the day, to win the game for the Bulldogs.

Freshman Mason Wallace (San Antonio/Judson) paced the Bulldogs all game, finishing with a career-high 18 points on 7-for-15 shooting. He also dished out two assists.

Mason Green (San Marcos/San Marcos) also scored in double figures for the Bulldogs, registering a 16-point, 14-rebound performance for his third double-double of the season.

Texas Lutheran led by five with a minute left in regulation and, despite losing that lead, had a chance to win the game in the closing seconds of regulation but would turn the ball over.

Cold shooting put the Bulldogs down big early, with LeTourneau starting the game on a 23-6 run. A stellar defensive effort in the final 11 minutes and 11 points from Green helped TLU shrink the Yellowjackets lead to three entering halftime.

Texas Lutheran led for a majority of the second half - responding to the slow start with a second half that saw them shoot 44% from the field.
