Men's Basketball defeats Hendrix, 72-53

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Xavier Phillips (Austin/Dripping Springs), Mason Green (San Marcos/San Marcos), and Riley Fornerette (Surprise, AZ/Dysart) combined to score 45 points Sunday to lead Texas Lutheran to a 72-53 victory over Hendrix in the Paul Peak Classic at the Robertson Center on the campus of Southwestern University.

Texas Lutheran (3-2) used a 17-0 run that stretched from the end of the first half to early in the second half to break open a close game, turning a two-point deficit into a 15-point lead.

Easton Allen (New Braunfels/Marion) began the spurt with a second chance bucket, with the and-one giving Texas Lutheran a 29-28 lead. Xavier Phillips would go on a personal 5-0 run to close the half as Texas Lutheran took a 34-28 lead into the break. Phillips would score 13 points in the opening half to lead the Bulldogs.

Texas Lutheran would extend its lead in the second half behind 10-point performances from Phillips and freshman Mason Wallace (San Antonio/Judson) with the Bulldogs leading by as much as 19 points.

Xavier Phillips led the Bulldogs with 23 points, adding five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Mason Green and Riley Fornerette each scored 11 points. Green would tally his second double-double of the season by recording 10 rebounds and would add a team-high four assists. Isaac Orozco (Helotes/O'Connor) added five rebounds to go along with two points.

After five straight road games, including the exhibition against Incarnate Word, the Bulldogs return to Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday, Nov. 23, as they take on the Continentals of Hamilton College. Tip-off is set for 2 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
