Men's Basketball Releases 2022-23 Slate

SEGUIN, Texas -- Twelve home games in Memorial Gymnasium highlight the Texas Lutheran men's basketball program's 2022-23 schedule, Head Coach Austin Falke announced Wednesday.

The Bulldogs will host three non-conference tilts at home and eight league contests in head coach Austin Falke's first season at the helm.

The schedule features 25 regular-season contests and two exhibitions, beginning Nov. 8 against Sul Ross State inside Memorial Gymnasium and ending with a February 18th showdown at Schreiner. The Bulldogs will play two scrimmages: first against University of the Incarnate Word on Nov. 15 then the Bulldogs will travel to face 2022 NCAA Tournament qualifiers, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, led by TLU basketball alum Steve Lutz '95. The Bulldogs begin conference play with a road doubleheader against Dallas (Dec. 2) and Austin College (Dec. 3). Texas Lutheran will honor the 1995-96 Texas Lutheran College (TLC) Heart of Texas (HOT) Championship team that was led by the late Jim Shuler on Jan. 21 as the Bulldogs take on the 'Roos of Austin College.

Two starters and 10 lettermen return from the Bulldogs' 2021-22 team, which posted a 10-15 overall record. Returners include junior Xavier Phillips (Austin/Dripping Springs) and All-SCAC Freshman team honoree Isaac Orozco (Helotes/O'Connor). The Bulldogs add six players in the 2022 recruiting class.

As a freshman, Isaac Orozco led the Bulldogs in steals with 1.8 steals per game - which placed him in a tie for fourth in the conference. Orozco would finish second in assists (2.7 AST/G) and fourth in scoring (8.5 PPG) while averaging 29.3 minutes per game. Orozco's 2.7 assists per game placed him tenth in the SCAC.

Despite missing time due to injuries, Xavier Phillips would finish second on the squad in scoring (12.9 PPG) and steals (1.4 STL/G) and third in rebounds (4.8 REBS/G).
