Texas Lutheran Picked Sixth in ASC Preseason Football Poll; Welch Named Player to Watch

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran football team was picked sixth in the 2022 American Southwest Conference (ASC) Preseason Poll announced Wednesday.

TLU received 78 points from the pool of 18 ballots.

The duo of defending national champions No. 1 Mary Hardin-Baylor and No. 6 Hardin-Simmons were the top two picked with a decided edge over the rest of the field with no other teams receiving first place votes and 28 points separating the Cowboys from Howard Payne - who was selected to finish third with 118 points.

The American Southwest Conference also announced individual honors and their "Players to Watch List."

Texas Lutheran All-Conference punter and the 2021 ASC Newcomer of the Year, Cameron Welch (New Braunfels/Canyon), was named one of 20 players to watch this season.

Texas Lutheran is scheduled to open the 2022 season September 3 when it faces the Yellow Jackets of Howard Payne at Bulldog Stadium, with kickoff set for 1 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
