Bulldogs Fall on Senior Day

SEGUIN, TX -- Texas Lutheran football (3-6, 3-5 ASC) led at the half but couldn't hold on in a 24-14 loss to Southwestern (TX) (3-6, 3-5 ASC) in the Bulldogs home finale at Bulldog Stadium.

Prior to the game, Texas Lutheran recognized 19 seniors in pregame Senior Day festivities - recognizing their accomplishments and thanking them for their contributions to the program. Thank you to all 19 seniors for everything over the course of the last four years.

The Bulldogs started off on fire - scoring on their opening drive via a rushing touchdown from DaKory Willis (Flatonia/Flatonia). After the Bulldogs defense forced a turnover on downs, Texas Lutheran responded with another touchdown via a 45 yard connection between Seth Cosme (Angleton/Angleton) and Trent Stefka (Caldwell/Caldwell) to stretch their lead to 14-0. That would be the last time the Bulldogs would find the end zone on the afternoon. The Bulldogs would carry the 14-0 lead into halftime but the Pirates would control the second half - scoring 24 unanswered points to rally past Texas Lutheran.

Seth Cosme led the Bulldogs offensively with a 13-23 16-yard performance through the air, adding 26 yards on the ground. Running back Jacob Forton (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) led the Bulldogs rushing for 42 yards on 11 carries. Junior H-Back Aaron Sotelo (Castroville/Medina Valley) had a season-high 87 yards receiving on 8 receptions.

Defensively, Texas Lutheran was led by Sultan Abdullah (Sweeny/Columbia) who finished the afternoon with 10 tackles - 6 solo. Dimitri Zavala (Houston/Elkins) added 9 tackles - 7 solo. Senior Montrey Smith (Schertz/Clemens) had a career-high 7 tackles on his senior day, including a tackle for loss. Eugene Robinson IV (Lake Charles, LA/Fort Bend Hightower (Texas)) had a monster day in the Bulldogs secondary coming down with two interceptions to go along with 4 solo tackles.

The Bulldogs will close the regular season on the road next Saturday as they head to Abilene to face 8th-ranked Hardin-Simmons. Kickoff is set for 1 PM. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
