Eight Bulldogs Earn All-SCAC Accolades

SEGUIN, Texas -- Brendan Beard (Coldspring/Coldspring-Oakhurst) and Aric Vasquez (San Antonio//Brandeis) headline a group of eight Texas Lutheran baseball players to earn all-SCAC recognition as voted upon by league coaches and sports information directors. Xavier Arias (La Vernia/Nixon-Smiley) and Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) were named All-SCAC Second Team.

Joining the quartet and earning honorable mention accolades were Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls), Johnny Garza Jr. (San Antonio/McCollum), Mason Goudeau (Liberty/Liberty) and JT Taylor (Conroe/Fort Bend Christian).

Beard, now a four-time all-conference performer, was named to the first team for the first time in his career. He sits fourth in the SCAC with a 2.35 ERA. Beard has a 6-1 record in his first year as a full-time starter, striking out 67 batters over 69 innings pitched in 11 appearances (10 starts).

Vasquez, now a three-time all-conference player, also earned first team honors for the first time in his career. He sits fourth in the SCAC with 35 RBIs. On the season, he is hitting .323 with two homers, eight doubles, two triples, and a team-high 50 total hits.

Arias, who earns All-SCAC honors in his first season as a Bulldog, sits fourth in the SCAC this season with six home runs and is third on the team with 34 RBIs. On the season, he is hitting .313 with eight doubles, two triples, and 12 stolen bases.

Peavy sits third on the team with a .321 average. He is tied for second on the squad with four home runs and co-leads the team with eight doubles. His 36 RBIs lead the team and ranks third in the SCAC.

Bourgeois has started all 38 games for the Bulldogs at shortstop. He sits seventh on the squad with a .288 average. He has tallied five doubles and a triple while driving in 22 runs and drawing 22 walks. Defensively, he leads the SCAC with 108 assists.

Garza Jr.'s last two appearances have come as a starter. He has 13 appearances on the year with six starts and boasts a 5-2 record with 29 strikeouts in 55.1 innings pitched. In conference play, the senior started three games across eight appearances, going 3-2 with a 2.55 ERA, striking out 13 in 35.1 innings of work. His 2.60 ERA ranks fifth in the SCAC.

Goudeau has paced the squad in batting average for most of the season. In his sophomore campaign, he is hitting .343 with two doubles, two triples, and two home runs and 10 RBIs in addition to his team-high 13 stolen bases.

JT Taylor earns his first career all-conference honor as a senior, starting 12 games on the mound for the Bulldogs. His 75 innings leads the squad while his 55 strikeouts rank second on the team. He is limiting opponents to a .288 average. In league play, Taylor was 2-2 with a 3.75 ERA over seven starts. He fanned 32 over 48 innings pitched.
