TLU Baseball Drops Series Opener to Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball dropped the series opener to Southwestern, 4-3, on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning at Rockwell Family Baseball Field in Georgetown.

The two teams were tied 3-3 after five innings but the Bulldogs weren't able to force the game into extra innings as the Pirates took the opener on a walk-off.

Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson) finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. With the RBI, Post moves into second on the TLU Baseball all-time RBI list with 200 career RBIs, becoming just the second Bulldog in program history to reach the mark (Aaron Merhoff, 214 (1997-99).

Brendan Beard (Coldspring/Coldspring-Oakhurst) started and pitched all 8.1 innings, allowing nine hits and one walk as he was dealt his first loss of the season.

Southwestern scored two runs in the second and added another in the third to take an early 3-0 lead.

Texas Lutheran (21-15, 10-9 SCAC) began to battle back in the fourth - scoring two runs behind an RBI double from Peavy and a sacrifice fly from Post.

The Bulldogs would tie the game at three in the fifth courtesy of an RBI single from Peavy. The Pirates threatened to retake the lead in the bottom of the inning but Beard was able to work out of the jam.

Texas Lutheran would strand a runner in scoring position in the top of the sixth, one of eight left on base on the night.

The Bulldogs would surrender the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth following a one-out double followed by the walk-off single to center field.

Texas Lutheran remains half a game ahead of the St. Thomas Celts of the coveted fourth spot in the SCAC Tournament with the Bulldogs having two games remaining and the Celts opening their three-game series with Austin College on Friday.

Texas Lutheran and Southwestern will finish the three-game series on Saturday, April 27, with a doubleheader in Georgetown with first pitch scheduled for 1 PM. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
