Bulldogs Take Series with 10-1 Win Over Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas --Texas Lutheran clinched their conference series over Schreiner with a 10-1 road win in a game that started Monday evening and due to weather was not finished until Wednesday evening.

Blake Cappadona (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) started and pitched three solid innings on Monday, striking out three batters while allowing one run on three hits and a walk.

Brendan Beard (Coldspring/Coldspring-Oakhurst) pitched four shutout innings of relief and was credited with the win to improve to 2-1 on the season. Beard struck out three batters and sprinkled six hits and a walk across his four innings of work. Jake Martinez (League City/Bay Area Christian) pitched a scoreless eighth before Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) pitched a perfect ninth inning.

Texas Lutheran scratched out five runs on four hits and two walks in the top of the second inning. Asher Bonnell (Round Rock/Stony Point) provided the big blow, smashing a two-run single. Bonnell finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.

The Mountaineers got on the board in the bottom of the second - scoring on two hits.

The Bulldogs brought home two more runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 7-1. Following a lead off walk to Blake Cappadona, Chase Bourgeois (League City/Clear Falls) hit an RBI triple to score Cappadona. Bourgeois would score on a throwing error by the Schreiner shortstop the following at-bat.

The game would be halted at the end of the fourth inning on Monday and resume play on Wednesday.

Texas Lutheran scored three more runs in the sixth to go up 10-1. Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson) legged out a two-RBI triple scoring Bonnell and Bourgeois and Chance Greene (Round Rock/Stony Point) doubled to score Post. Greene finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Chase Bourgeois would finish 1-for-1 with four walks and three runs scored. The four walks finishes one walk shy of the program record of five held by three Bulldogs including teammate Blade Strzelczyk.
