Baseball Drops SCAC Opener to Centenary, 8-4

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Texas Lutheran found the going rough in its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opener Friday as the Bulldogs were unable to overcome a six-run second inning and lost to Centenary, 8-4, at Shehee Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson) went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI to lead the Bulldogs offensively.

Texas Lutheran opened the game with two runs in the first inning courtesy of a two RBI double from Post. The Bulldogs added another run in the second inning with a run driven in by Blake Cappadona (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill).

The Gents, the 2022 SCAC Champions, responded with a six-run second inning to take a 6-3 lead. The Gents would tack on two more insurance runs in the third inning to extend their lead to 8-3 after three.

After a rocky stretch, JT Taylor (Houston/Fort Bend Christian) settled things down out of the bullpen. He pitched 5.2 scoreless innings while striking out three batters.

The Bulldogs managed to trim the lead to 8-4 on an RBI groundout from Aric Vasquez (San Antonio/Brandeis).

Texas Lutheran looked like rallying in the sixth inning, loading the bases with three hit by pitches, but ended the threat without any runs coming across.

The Bulldogs (7-10, 0-1 SCAC) are scheduled to close out the conference opening weekend on Saturday, March 18, as the teams will meet for a doubleheader scheduled for 1 & 4 PM. All streaming and live stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
