TLU Baseball Beats Our Lady of the Lake, 9-3

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball scored seven runs in the eighth inning to rally for a 9-3 win over Our Lady of the Lake on Tuesday at Katt-Isbel Field.

Seven different Bulldog pitchers would take the mound Tuesday night with Blake Cappadona (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) getting his first start of the season, tossing two scoreless innings. Despite allowing a run in the third inning, the Texas Lutheran pitching staff would carry a no-hit bid into the sixth inning when the Saints finally broke through against sophomore Jake Martinez (League City/Bay Area Christian). Freshman Triston McGowan (Vidor/Vidor) would pick up the win in relief, pitching two shutout innings while striking out three batters for his first win of his collegiate career. As a staff, Texas Lutheran would hold the Saints to two hits on the night.

Randy Huerta (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs. Aric Vasquez (San Antonio/Brandeis) and Payton Dahl (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge) also had two hits apiece with Dahl driving in two runs of his own.

After trailing 3-0 through six innings, Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson) ended the Saints shutout attempt, scoring on a wild pitch to get the Bulldogs on the board.

Texas Lutheran (7-9) continued to chip away as a seventh inning RBI single from Randy Huerta shrunk the Saints lead to 3-2.

The Bulldogs jumped all over the Saints in the eighth with seven runs on six hits, all with no outs, and batting around in the inning. The inning started with singles from Post and Mason Goudeau (Liberty/Liberty) before Niko Garcia (Houston/Langham Creek) launched a double down the left field line to score Post, tying the game at three.

After Hayden Kesselring (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) reached on a hit by pitch to load the bases and Wade Tittle (Caldwell/Caldwell) walked in a run, Payton Dahl doubled to right field to score two more runs for the Bulldogs. Randy Huerta followed with a two RBI triple and Aric Vasquez capped the inning with an RBI single to make the score 9-3.

The Bulldogs will travel to Shreveport, Louisiana, to start SCAC conference play against the defending SCAC Champion Centenary Gents with the series starting on Friday, March 17. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM on Friday at Shehee Stadium. All streaming and live stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
