TLU Baseball Rallies to Win, 9-5, Over UMHB

BELTON, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball scored nine unanswered runs to rally for a 9-5 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday at Red Murff Field in Belton, Texas.

The Bulldogs (4-7) scored four runs in the sixth to tie the game up before scoring four more runs in the ninth to complete the comeback victory over the Crusaders.

Holden Philippus (San Antonio/San Antonio Christian) got the Bulldogs on the board with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Philippus would drive in two runs on the night.

Niko Garcia (Houston/Langham Creek) went 1-for-2 with a grand slam, the first home run of his collegiate career. Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson) went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer. Freshman Mason Goudeau (Liberty/Liberty), making his first collegiate start, went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Diego Vinton (Richmond/George Ranch) pitched the final five innings and earned the win, shutting out the Crusaders while striking out seven and only allowing one hit.

UMHB got out to a 5-0 lead over TLU before they got on the board. The Bulldogs scored a run in the fifth when Holden Philippus singled to center field to score R.J. Carrillo (Alice/Alice).

Texas Lutheran knotted the game up with a four run top of the sixth courtesy of the grand slam from Niko Garcia.

With the game still tied 5-5 going to the ninth, the Bulldogs plated four more runs on three hits to go up 9-5. A Niko Garcia walk and R.J. Carrillo single got the ninth inning barrage started. After a pitching change, Holden Philippus would plate Payton Dahl (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge), who pinch ran for Garcia, on a sacrifice fly. Tyler Post would break the game open with a three-run home run to cap the inning - bringing the game to its final score of 9-5.

The Bulldogs are back home at Katt-Isbel Field on Tuesday, March 7, as they take on DeSales University at 6 PM in non-conference action. All streaming and live stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
