TLU A&T Falls to East Texas Baptist in Home Opener

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Acrobatics and Tumbling, led by first year head coach Cam Bryant and assistant coach Sophia Ranni, made their debut Saturday in front of a packed Memorial Gymnasium crowd that was excited to see the Bulldogs in action for the first time in their inaugural season. The freshman-laiden Bulldogs would drop their first meet to East Texas Baptist with the Bulldogs (0-1) earning a total score of 100.025 and the Tigers (1-0) earning a total score of 215.105.

Following an explosive entrance, Texas Lutheran would take the mat for the first time - scoring a 13.00 in the compulsory, including a 2.00 in acro, 3.85 in pyramid, 5.15 in toss, and 2.00 in tumbling out of the highest possible value of 10. ETBU outscored the Bulldogs in the compulsory, earning a 31.25 total score.

After the acro event, TLU continued to trail the more experienced Tigers. Texas Lutheran earned a total score of 12.15, consisting of a 3.85 in the fifth element, 5.90 in the sixth element, and 2.40 in the seventh element. Texas Lutheran would tie ETBU in the sixth element.
 
Texas Lutheran fell just short of overtaking the Tigers in the pyramid event with the Tigers outscoring the Bulldogs 24.90 to 23.75. During this event, Texas Lutheran would win its first heat in program history outscoring the Tigers 7.65 to 6.75 in the Inversion Pyramid portion of the event.

Leading into the half, TLU trailed ETBU 77.50 - 48.90. 
 
The Tigers took the toss event, with event scores being 22.30 - 15.65. Texas Lutheran earned a 7.50 in salto, 6.15 in synchronized, and 2.00 in open.
 
East Texas Baptist also took the tumbling event, outscoring TLU 41.375 to 35.475. Gracen Bunch (Georgetown/Georgetown) helped the Bulldogs earn a 8.325 out of a possible 8.5 in aerial tumbling - outscoring the Tigers by 0.875.
 
Up next, Texas Lutheran will travel to Belton, Texas, on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 4 PM to face Mary Hardin-Baylor, who is led by Coach Bryant and Coach Ranni's former Baylor teammate, Raffaela Scotto.
