TLU Women's Cross Country, Kylee Garcia receive All-Academic honors from USTFCCCA

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Cross Country and individual runner Kylee Garcia (Wichita Falls/Rider) received All-Academic awards from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Overall, there were 212 women's teams that received All-Academic Team honors in NCAA Division III for the 2019 cross country season.

Garcia was one of 378 women in NCAA Division III to receive the All-Academic Individual award this year.

In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top 25 percent of competitors at their respective regional championship meet.

In order to qualify for All-Academic Team distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale. This GPA must include the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers. The Bulldogs, coached by Darlene Holland, posted a team GPA of 3.21.

Garcia, a December graduate of TLU, set the new school record for a 6K course with a time of 22 minutes, 54.6 seconds at the 2019 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region Cross Country Championships, held on Nov. 16 in Memphis, Tenn. Garcia was fourth among Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference runners competing in the regional championship.
 
Garcia earned All-Region honors with a 28th-place finish in the regional championship race.
 
Garcia was an All-Conference performer with a 13th-place finish at the 2019 SCAC Championships. She also claimed a Fall Academic Honor Roll award from the SCAC, and she was named an SCAC Character & Community Student-Athlete of the Week.
