Cross Country squads start 2018 with Alamo City Opener

SAN ANTONIO -- A select group of Texas Lutheran Women's and Men's Cross Country runners opened the 2018 cross country season by running Friday morning in Trinity University's Alamo City Opener.

Bulldog junior Ashley Rynard (Temple/Temple) took third overall in the women's race. Rynard clocked a time of 19 minutes, 31.9 seconds.

Rynard's teammates - freshman Hannah Martinez (Alice/Alice) and juniors Ciara Rodriguez (Uvalde/Uvalde) and Kate Braun (Wimberley/Wimberley) - recorded finishes of 14th, 19th and 20th, respectively.

In the men's race, junior Caleb Calderon (Austin/Akins) came home in sixth place overall. Calderon crossed the line in 16:38.70.

Calderon's fellow Bulldogs - freshman Cassius Serff-Roberts (Austin/Akins) and sophomore Hector Hornedo (San Antonio/Antonian) - produced finishes of 21st and 23rd, respectively.

Calderon and Rynard will race individually next Friday (Sept. 7) at the Fourth Annual University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars Invitational in Springfield, Ill.
