TLU Track & Field teams grab wins, records at D3 Challenge


SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran hosted the D3 Challenge track and field meet at Bulldog Stadium on Saturday and came away with some new stadium and school marks in the process.

Freshman thrower Tia Hart (Edna/Industrial) broke the school record in the women's javelin that had stood since 1982. Hart won the event with a toss of 134 feet, 11 inches, breaking Patricia Dowdell's mark of 130-9.

Hart won Saturday's javelin competition by 20 feet, 9 inches.

Caleb Calderon (Austin/Akins) set a new school new record in the 5,000 meters, with a time of 15 minutes, 46.15 seconds. He finished second in the 5,000 and won the men's mile, with a time of 4:38.77.

Ashley Myers (Ingleside/Edna) won the 100 and the 200. Myers took the 200 with a time of 25.34, and she won the 100 in 12.18.

Paris Foster (Magnolia/Magnolia) won the 100, the 200, and the 110 hurdles. He won the 100 in 10.66 and the 200 in 22.08. Foster also grabbed the victory in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.62.

Dejah Carr (Houston/Channelview) won the shot put and the hammer and took second in the discus. Carr won the shot with a toss of 36-10, and she won the hammer with a throw of 139-0.

Garrett Garza (Round Rock/Stony Point) won the shot put with a toss of 52-11. Garza also took second in the discus and third in the hammer.

TLU went 1-2-3 in the hammer as Jacob Guercia (Forney/Forney) won the title with a throw of 139-3.

Dalton Masters (Castroville/Medina Valley) won the high jump with a clearance of 6 feet, 5-1/2 inches.

Connor Thompson (Nederland/Nederland) won the 400 in a time of 48.91.

Ryan Geiger (Shiner/St. Paul) won the javelin with a toss of 163-5.

Ashley Rynard (Temple/Temple) won the women's 400 in 58.90, and Kylee Garcia (Wichita Falls/Rider) was second in the 5,000 with a time of 19:27.17.

Ashlee Hooks (Meridian/Meridian) captured the high jump title with a leap of 5-2.

TLU is scheduled to compete next weekend at the Texas State Invitational and the Trinity University Invite.
