Dejah Carr sets new school record in weight throw at Houston's Howie Ryan Invitational

SEGUIN, Texas -- With Texas Lutheran Indoor Track & Field student-athletes spread out across meets in two states, the Bulldogs returned home to Seguin with an event win in Michigan and a new school record in Houston.
 
Senior thrower Garrett Garza won Grand Valley State's Big Meet Saturday shot put title in Allendale, Mich. Garza, an Indoor and Outdoor All-American in the shot, won the meet in Michigan with a toss of 17.42 meters (57 feet, 2 inches).
 
Garza was the only competitor in the 29-athlete field to go over 17 meters.
 
Garza also competed in GVSU's Big Meet Friday in Allendale and took fourth overall with a toss of 16.94 meters (55-7).
 
Dejah Carr set a new school record in the women's weight throw with a toss of 15.74 meters (51-7.75) at the University of Houston's Howie Ryan Invitational.
 
Carr placed ninth in field made up of mostly NCAA Division I athletes. Carr was the top NCAA DII or DIII thrower in the field of 25.

Darren Jones, TLU's All-American in the 60-meter dash in 2019, competed in the 60 at the Howie Ryan Invitational and advanced to the event's semifinal round.
 
Jones posted a time of 7.06 seconds in the preliminaries and a time of 7.10 in the semifinals.
 
Paris Foster advanced to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles after a preliminary round time of 8.62 and a semifinal time of 8.48.
 
Foster placed fifth overall with a time in the event finals of 8.39. Foster had the top time among NCAA Division II and Division III athletes.
 
Ashley Rynard joined Garza at the two GVSU Big Meets on Friday and Saturday.
 
Rynard, a 2019 indoor All-American, raced in the 800 at the Big Meet Friday. She placed 24th out of 44 runners with a time of 2:16.95.
