Bulldog student-athletes set three new indoor records at Houston meet

HOUSTON -- Texas Lutheran Women and Men's Indoor Track & Field student-athletes combined to set three new school indoor records over the weekend during competition at the University of Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational at Yeoman Fieldhouse.
 
Indoor and Outdoor All-American Garrett Garza broke his own school record for indoor shot put with toss of 57 feet, 11.75 inches (17.67 meters).
 
Garza placed second in the meet to unattached thrower Felipe Valencia. Garza was the top collegiate thrower in the meet. He had the top collegiate mark by over a foot.
 
Women's Indoor All-American Ashley Rynard broke the school record for the women's 3,000 meters with a time of 10 minutes, 48.63 seconds. She placed 31st overall in the event.
 
Rynard also ran the 800 and finished in ninth with time of 2:17.09.
 
Jalen Starks broke the men's indoor weight throw record with a toss of 43-10 (13.36 meters). Starks placed 19th in the event.
 
Other stand-out performances from the meet included:
 
- Christopher Torres winning his heat in the men's 400 meters and advancing to the finals with a time of 51.54;
 
- Ezrael Powell advancing to the 60 meters final and posting a time of 7.00 to place 16th overall;
 
- All-American Darren Jones racing in his first 60 of the season and posting a time of 6.97 in the preliminary round;
 
- Nathan Howell running a personal best in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.98; and,
 
- Paris Foster clocking a time of 8.55 and finishing eighth overall in the 60 hurdles.
