Texas Lutheran, St. Thomas tie 1-1 in Bulldogs' regular-season finale

HOUSTON -- Texas Lutheran and St. Thomas (Texas) tied 1-1 Sunday at Houston Sports Park in the final regular-season conference match for the Bulldogs.
 
The draw secured the No. 5 seed for TLU at the upcoming Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship, set for Nov. 8-10 at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
 
The Bulldogs will take an overall record of 7-8-2 and a conference mark of 2-5-1 into the post-season tournament. TLU will face No. 4 seed University of Dallas at 11 a.m. Friday in the first quarterfinal match of the tournament.
 
St. Thomas, ineligible for the SCAC tournament because of its ongoing transition from the NAIA to the NCAA Division III, now has an overall record of 4-8-2 and a conference mark of 1-5-1.
 
In Sunday's draw with St. Thomas, Madison Alexander (New Braunfels/Canyon) leveled the match at 1-1 with a goal. Alexander collected a rebound off a free kick and knocked home her fourth goal of the season. Alexander's goal came in the 73rd minute.
 
TLU fell behind 1-0 when the Celts' Aeriana Lewis scored in the 59th minute off a free kick.
 
St. Thomas held a 15-11 edge in total shots and a 10-9 edge in shots on goal.
 
TLU keeper Madison Stout (San Antonio/Southwest) made nine saves. St. Thomas keeper Jordan Thompson made eight saves.
