Bulldogs' Cassie Roche named SCAC Offensive Player of the Week

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran senior shortstop Cassie Roche has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, March 2 through Sunday, March 8.

Roche helped lead TLU to a 3-1 combined record last week at the Tucson Invitational and the prestigious NFCA Leadoff Classic in Arizona. She recorded a hit in each game, posting a .545 batting average (6-for-11) with four RBI, four stolen bases, three runs scored, a double, and a .636 slugging percentage.

Roche drove in two in the win over No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan and had two RBI in the victory against Pacific Lutheran.

Roche, a four-year starter, is hitting .410 through 17 games this year. She has 13 RBI, 10 runs scored, and seven stolen bases.

Top-ranked TLU concludes its Arizona road trip today (Tuesday) with an 11 a.m. central (9 a.m. mountain) contest against Emory (Ga.), the team the Bulldogs defeated for the 2019 NCAA Division III National Championship.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman infielder Taylor Mayo of Centenary led the Ladies to an SCAC opening series win against Dallas last weekend. Mayo hit .273 (3-for-11) delivering a walk-off single in the first game and a walk-off sacrifice fly in game two. She finished the weekend with three RBI, one run scored and a .273 slugging percentage. Sophomore outfielder Liz Cordova of Dallas led the Crusaders with eight hits in 12 at bats over the SCAC series at Centenary College. This included a pair of three-hit games in Saturday's twinbill. She logged a double in every game over the three-game set. Her double in the seventh in Sunday's finale set her up to score the tying run in an eventual 6-4 victory in extras. Cordova also drove in and scored two runs. Senior first basemen Kaitlynn Copher of Southwestern continued her strong season at the plate, batting .500 on the week, with five RBI, five runs scored, three doubles, two stolen bases, one walk, a .528 on-base percentage and a .750 slugging percentage to help the Pirates post a 3-1 record. Sophomore pitcher Lauren Rich of Trinity led the Tigers with a .364 batting average (4-11) over its first four games of the Spring Games in Florida.
