Texas Lutheran's Ashlyn Strother named SCAC Pitcher of the Week

Strother picked up two wins and a save last week in three TLU victories in Tucson, Ariz. Strother tossed five shutout innings and allowed just two hits in the win over Mary Washington.

 

In the victory over No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan, Strother notched the save with a scoreless inning of work. In the win over Pacific Lutheran, she struck out seven and recorded the complete-game, two-hit shutout.

 

For the week, Strother struck out 7.64 per seven innings (12 batters total), and she issued just one walk. Her ERA for the week was 0.00, and her season ERA went to 0.66.

 

Strother is the fourth Bulldog pitcher to earn SCAC Pitcher of the Week honors this year.

 

The Bulldogs close out play in Tucson, Ariz. today (Tuesday) with a contest against Emory (Ga.), the team TLU beat for the national championship in last year's NCAA Division III Softball Championship title series. First pitch is set for an 11 a.m. central (9 a.m. mountain).

 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore pitcher Karina Campo of Dallas picked up the lone win for the Crusaders last week in the circle, striking out two and allowing just one run in 3.2 innings in the victory on Sunday against Centenary. Senior pitcher Lindsey Longuet of Southwestern threw the first no-hitter of her collegiate career, shutting down the Austin College Kangaroos in the Pirates' 8-0 victory to open the three-game conference series. Longuet is leading the conference in strikeouts with 65 in the season, tied for first with six wins and is averaging 1.43 in earned runs. Sophomore Cat Patterson of Trinity pitched a combined shutout in the Tigers' only win over the weekend, pitching 6.1 shutout innings of a 2-0 victory over Suffolk.
