TUCSON, Ariz. -- Top-ranked Texas Lutheran split a pair of games Saturday at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic. The Bulldogs fell 10-2 to No. 2 ranked Christopher Newport in five innings and defeated Pacific Lutheran 12-0 in five innings.
The Bulldogs are 14-1 overall.
Christopher Newport broke open a 2-0 game with a five-run fourth and a three-run fifth.
CNU improved to 12-0 with the win.
Chassety Raines and Madisyn Cates had RBI for TLU in the loss.
In the win over Pacific Lutheran, Haley Padilla and Alyssa Cantu each homered.
Padilla was 2-for-2 with three RBI, and Cantu was 1-2 with an RBI.
Cassie Roche added two hits and two RBI, and Cates collected three more hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
Sunday in Tucson, TLU plays St. John Fisher at 1 p.m. (11 a.m. mountain) and third-ranked Linfield at 3 p.m. (1 p.m. mountain) at the Leadoff Classic.
