Texas Lutheran's Kayla Oliveira named SCAC Pitcher of the Week

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran's Kayla Oliveira, a senior right-hander from San Diego, Texas, has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 1 through Feb. 9.

Oliveira pitched 9-1/3 innings of shutout softball and picked up a pair of pitching wins as the top-ranked Bulldogs started the year with doubleheader sweeps of Huston-Tillotson (at home in Seguin) and Concordia Texas (on the road in Austin).

Oliveira allowed just two hits total in her two outings. She struck out five and walked three.

For Oliveira, the SCAC Pitcher of the Week award is the fourth such honor of her career.

Oliveira was the SCAC Pitcher of the Week three times in the 2019 season, a year in which she went 18-3 with a 1.44 ERA and helped lead TLU to the 2019 NCAA Division III national title.

TLU (4-0) is back in action this Saturday with an 11 a.m. road doubleheader at LeTourneau University (2-0) in Longview, Texas. LeTourneau will have live video and live stats for both games of the doubleheader. Video and stat links can be found at tlubulldogs.com.

Junior pitcher Maggie Watts of Dallas went 1-0 in the circle last weekend as the Crusaders earned an opening weekend sweep of Southwestern (Kan.).
