SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Texas Lutheran Cross Country runners Ashley Rynard (Temple/Temple) and Caleb Calderon (Austin/Akins) collected top-seven individual finishes Friday evening at the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars Invitational.

Rynard finished fourth overall in the four-kilometer race. She crossed the finish line in 16 minutes, 14.43 seconds. UIS runner Taryn Christy won the race in a time of 15:40.64.

Calderon came home in seventh in the six-kilometer men's race. He posted a time of 21:22.18. UIS runner Tyler Pasley took the top spot with a time of 20:41.78.

Calderon's time broke the school record for a 6K cross country race. The old school mark of 22:05 was set by Blake Westbrook.

"It was pouring at the race," said Darlene Holland, TLU's head coach for women's and men's cross country. "It was super muddy and slippery. I was so proud of how they both raced given the conditions. Their times don't really indicate the great races each of them ran."

Rynard and Calderon, both juniors, were the only runners to compete for TLU at the UIS invitational meet.

UIS Head Coach Scott Slade is in his first year as the head coach of the Prairie Stars, and he is the husband of Holland. Slade has been a volunteer assistant coach with the Bulldogs in recent years.

Rynard and Calderon will join their teammates next Saturday in the TLU Bulldog Invitational, which will take place on the TLU campus.
