Eight TLU track and field stand-outs named to USTFCCCA All-Region squads



SEGUIN, Texas -- Eight Texas Lutheran student-athletes picked up United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region honors for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field season.
 
The top five ranked individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors.
 
Additionally, each of the members of a top three ranked relay teams in each region were named All-Region.
 
A total of 1,915 honors were handed out to athletes from USTFCCCA member institutions, which included a near-even split between men's (951) and women's programs (964).
 
TLU's national runner-up in the shot put, Garrett Garza (Round Rock/Stony Point), earned All-Region honors in two events – the shot put and the discus.
 
Fellow All-American Darren Jones (Waller/Waller) collected All-Region honors in three events: the 100-meter dash, the 200, and the 4x100 relay. Jones earned outdoor All-America honors this year with an eighth-place finish.
 
Paris Foster (Magnolia/Magnolia) also received three All-Region citations with top-five regional rankings in the 110 hurdles, the 4x100 relay, and the 100. Foster ran in the outdoor championship national meet in all three events.
 
Connor Thompson (Nederland/Nederland) and Tyler Dykes (Iola/Iola) rounded out the Bulldogs' 4x100 relay team. Both earned All-Region honors for being on the relay squad. Thompson added All-Region honors in the open 400.
 
TLU Women's Track & Field was represented by Tia Hart (Edna/Industrial), Cortnee Priour (Victoria/Goliad), and Ashley Rynard (Temple/Temple).
 
Hart, a freshman, was top-five in the region for the javelin, with a school-record toss of 134 feet, 11 inches. She made her first NCAA Division III national championship appearance this year.
 
Priour, a senior, claimed All-Region honors in two events – the long jump and the triple jump. Priour advanced to the national championship meet in the triple jump this year after being an All-American in the long jump last year.
 
Rynard, a junior, also picked up All-Region honors in two events – the 800 and the 1,500. Rynard ran in the DIII national championship meet in the 800 for a second consecutive year.
