Garrett Garza named SCAC Field Athlete of the Week for second time this year

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran senior Garrett Garza (Round Rock/Stony Point) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this outdoor track and field season. 

Garza is the Field Athlete of the Week this week for meets held through Sunday, March 31.

Garza broke his own school record for the third time this season and jumped to the top of the NCAA Division III performance list following a fifth-place finish in the shot put at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational.

Garza produced a toss of 17.39 meters (57 feet, 0.75 inches) at Texas State. 

Garza had seven of the eight top shot put throws in all of NCAA Division III last week.

Garza also competed at the Trinity University Texas Quad Meet on Sunday and won that event with a toss of 16.64 meters (54 feet, 7-1/4 inches).

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Freshman Logan Henning of Colorado College finished seventh in the pole vault at the CSU-Pueblo Spank Blassing meet with a PR mark of 4.23 meters. Freshman Sean Majors of Trinity jumped a new personal best in the long jump with a mark of 6.99 meters which currently ranks first among all SCAC leapers.
