Bulldogs' M/W Outdoor Track & Field squads capture 15 titles at HSU Invitational

ABILENE, Texas – Texas Lutheran Women's and Men's Outdoor Track & Field collected a combined 15 event victories Saturday at the Hardin-Simmons Invitational.
TLU sprinters Darren Jones (Waller/Waller) and Ashley Myers (Ingleside/Edna) each completed the 100/200 double, and Ezrael Powell (San Antonio/Marshall) took home titles in the men's long jump and triple jump.
Jones won the men's 100 meters in a wind-aided time of 10.59 seconds. He took the 200 in 21.68.
Myers captured the 100 in 12.33 and won the 200 in 25.57.
Powell was victorious in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 4.25 inches. He won the triple jump with a mark of 41-11.
Myers also helped TLU win the women's 4x400 relay. She ran the lead-off leg. The relay also included Preslee Fuller (Corpus Christi/Veterans Memorial), Ashlee Hooks (Meridian/Meridian) and Jackie Garcia (San Antonio/Cornerstone Christian).
Contending with winds consistently around 30 mph, Hooks won the women's high jump (4-9.75), and Dejah Carr (Houston/Channelview) captured the shot put title (39-11.25).
Freshmen Lydia Lyssy (Poth/Poth) and Tia Hart (Edna/Industrial) won the discus and javelin, respectively. Lissy posted a mark of 116-11, and Hart won the javelin by nearly 13 feet with a toss of 123-2.
Back on the men's side, Paris Foster (Magnolia/Magnolia) won the 110 hurdles in a time of 14.70, and Heath McDonough (Canyon Lake/Canyon Lake) cleared 5-11.5 to win the high jump.
Jacob Guercia (Forney/Forney) recorded a win in the hammer with a toss of 143-0, and Ryan Geiger (Shiner/St. Paul) collected a victory in the javelin with a throw of 153-5.
Although he didn't win the outright shot put title, Garrett Garza (Round Rock/Stony Point) broke the outdoor school record in shot put  with a heave of 54-1.75. Garza was the top collegiate thrower in the event. An unattached thrower won the shot put.

Garza also took second in the discus, and he was the top collegiate thrower in that event as well. Garza posted a mark of 134-10.
Both TLU squads compete this Saturday at the Trinity University Open in San Antonio.
