Texas Lutheran Men's Golf in fifth after round one of SCAC Conference Preview

BLANCO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's Golf posted a team score of 301 on Monday and sits in fifth place overall at the SCAC Conference Preview, hosted by TLU at Vaaler Creek Golf Club.
 
Vaaler Creek Golf Club will be the host of the upcoming 2020 SCAC Men's and Women's Golf Championships on April 20-21.
 
In Monday's action, Trinity (Texas) carded a team score of 289. The Tigers lead the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor by two shots entering Tuesday's final round.
 
McMurry and Southwestern are third after a pair of 295s. TLU, at 301, is followed by University of Dallas (307), Schreiner (307), St. Thomas (307), and Johnson & Wales-Denver (315.
 
Daniel Nunez of Trinity is the first-round leader after posting a four-under 68. He has a two-shot lead over Christian Rodriguez of Southwestern. Rodriguez is playing as an individual.
 
TLU's Chase Maus is in a tie for sixth after an even-par round of 72.
 
Maus aced the 175-yard, par-3 No. 5 with an 8-iron. It was his first-ever hole-in-one. Maus hit his ball to the right of the hole and it funneled to the left and dropped in.
 
TLU individual player Chandler Otto is in a tie for eighth after a 1-over 73.
 
TLU starting-five members Matthew McArthur and Nathan Haley are tied for 22nd, along with teammate Garrett Coan, who is playing as an individual.
 
Cameron Carter is in a tie for 31st after a 77, and Evan Skaar is 56th after an 88.
