Texas Lutheran's Chase Maus wins Tempest Intercollegiate; Bulldogs finish fourth as team

GLADEWATER, Texas -- Texas Lutheran sophomore Chase Maus (Manor/Manor) won the 2019 Tempest Intercollegiate at Tempest Golf Club with a final round score of 2-under.

Maus entered the final round four shots out of the lead. He birdied holes 13, 14, and 15 before bogeying 16 and posting pars of 17 and 18.

Over the two rounds Monday and the final round Tuesday, Maus was +2 on par 3s, +5 on par 4s, and -1 on the par 5s.

Maus opened the tournament with scores of 78 and 74 on Monday before rallying to win with the final-round 70.

Maus was second in the tournament in number of birdies (nine), and he tied for ninth in total pars (31).

TLU posted a team score of 311 on Tuesday and finished in fourth place in the team standings. The Bulldogs were just six shots out of a first place.

The Bulldogs' Matthew McArthur (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) started the final round with a one-shot lead, but he posted an 81 on Tuesday and dropped into a tie for sixth.

Nathan Haley (Richmond/Foster) shot 76 in the final round and moved up to a tie for 18th. Haley tied for the tournament lead in pars, with 34.

Cameron Carter (Rocksprings, Wyo./Kelly Walsh) and Evan Skaar (Coleraine, Minn./Homeschool/Greenway) finished in 31st and 34th, respectively.

Tyler Junior College won the tournament on a fifth-player scorecard tiebreaker against LeTourneau. The YellowJackets did not play with a fifth player in rounds two and three.

Tyler JC and LeTourneau each ended the tournament with a three-round total of 922.

Webster (Mo.) took third at 923, and TLU was fourth at 928.

Centenary, Schreiner, LeTourneau JV, Belhaven, Louisiana College, and Jacksonville College rounded out the team placements.
