SEGUIN, Texas  -- For the first time in school history, Texas Lutheran University will host the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's and Men's Basketball Championships.

The action starts at noon Friday with No. 4 seed Southwestern facing No. 5 seed Colorado College in the first women's quarterfinal.

The TLU Women, the No. 3 seed, play No. 6 seed Schreiner in the second women's quarterfinal, set for a 2 p.m. start.

The TLU Men, the No. 2 seed in the men's tournament, received a bye into the SCAC semifinal. The Bulldogs, three-time champions of the SCAC tournament, will face either No. 3 seed Centenary (La.) or No. 6 seed Trinity. The TLU semifinal game is set for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Saturday.

The seeds for this year's men's tournament are:
1) Southwestern (11-5 SCAC; 14-11 overall)
2) Texas Lutheran (11-5 SCAC; 16-9 overall)
3) Centenary (10-6 SCAC; 13-12 overall)
4) Schreiner (10-6 SCAC; 14-11 overall)
5) Dallas (6-10 SCAC; 9-16 overall)
6) Trinity (6-10 SCAC; 6-19 overall)

The seeds for this year's women's tournament are:
1) Trinity (14-2 SCAC; 21-4 overall)
2) Austin College (13-3 SCAC; 20-5 overall)
3) Texas Lutheran (12-4 SCAC; 16-9 overall)
4) Southwestern (11-5 SCAC; 12-13 overall)
5) Colorado College (8-8 overall; 11-13 overall)
6) Schreiner (6-10 overall; 6-19 overall)

It is the second time in program history and the first since 2005 that the Southwestern men have earned the No. 1 seed for the conference postseason tournament. The Pirates tied with Texas Lutheran this year for the top spot, and both will be recognized as regular season co-champions.

After splitting their regular-season matchups (both won on the other's home floor), Southwestern earned the top seed by virtue of its better record against the grouping of tied teams at 10-6 - Centenary, Johnson & Wales and Schreiner. Southwestern was 4-2 combined against those three while Texas Lutheran was a combined 2-4 - therefore giving Southwestern the nod and next week's number one seed at the SCAC championship tournament.

Continuing down the men's bracket, Centenary College, Johnson & Wales University and Schreiner University all tied for third place at 10-6 in the standings. Centenary College earned the tiebreaker edge and the No. 3 seed in the tournament by virtue of its better cumulative head-to-head mark against the other two. Centenary was a combined 3-1 against Schreiner and Johnson & Wales, which bested Schreiner's combined 2-2 record and JWU's 1-3 mark. Schreiner will be the No. 4 seed, and Johnson & Wales is not yet eligible for SCAC postseason play.

The last two teams in the tournament, University of Dallas and Trinity University, both finished 6-10 in league play. Since the two split their regular season series, Dallas earned the tiebreaker nod and No. 5 seed by virtue of its better mark against the top seed, Southwestern. UD was 1-1 against Southwestern while TU was swept by the Pirates.

Men's quarterfinal action gets underway at 5 p.m. Friday afternoon.

On the women's side, this year's tournament represents the fourth consecutive year the Trinity women have been the #1 seed, and the Tigers have won the SCAC title each of the previous three years in that position including last year's 80-74 tournament-clinching win over Southwestern University.

The only tiebreaker needed to seed this year's women's tournament occurred for the sixth and final slot between Schreiner and Centenary, who both finished 6-10. The two split their regular-season contests, and when working down the standings, both posted identical marks against every conference opponent.

When the third tiebreaker, common non-conference opponent result at the same site, could not produce a separation (both lost to East Texas Baptist on the road and the common LeTourneau games were not same site games), the fourth and final tiebreaker - coin toss - was used. Following the Centenary/Texas Lutheran game on Sunday, the coin toss was won by Schreiner, giving the Mountaineers the sixth and final berth into this year's tournament.
