Bulldogs push win streak to five with 79-60 home win over Dallas


SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's Basketball won its fifth straight with a convincing 79-60 home victory Friday against University of Dallas.

The Bulldogs pushed their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference record to 7-2 and hold strong in first place in the SCAC standings. TLU is 12-6 overall. 

Dallas dropped to 6-9 overall and to 4-3 in the SCAC with the loss.

Bulldog shooting guard Jacob Kouremetis (San Antonio/O'Connor) scored 17 first-half points to lead the squad, including four threes. He dished out five assists and a steal. Fellow shooting guard Nathan Josephs (San Antonio/Texas State) added 16 points and three assists.

Harris Jowell (Brock/Brock) and Jackson Willoughby (Port Aransas/Port Aransas) also scored in double figures with 13 each. Jowell pulled down 10 rebounds to collect his fourth double-double, and Willoughby added seven rebounds. 

Dallas' only lead of the night, 6-5, came at the 16:59 mark in the first half following a layup by John Russell. 

Russell was one of three Crusaders to hit double digits. Dallas was led by Dustin Mathis with 14 points. Joshua Nunn and Russell chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

The Bulldogs held the Crusaders to just 25 percent shooting from the arc in the first half. TLU put up 16-of-32 (50 percent) from the field and shot 43 percent (6-of-14) from the three-point line.

TLU finished the night on 48 percent shooting from the field and went 12-for-28 (42 percent) at the arc. The Bulldogs scored 30 points off of Dallas turnovers. 

Overall, Dallas made just 38 percent of its shots and went 4-for-16 from the three-point line. 

The Bulldogs led by 14, 42-28, at the break and by as many as 21, with 1:38 to play in the game.

TLU returned to SCAC action on Sat., Jan. 26th in Seguin as they play host to the Trinity University Tigers. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium. Live stat and video links will be available at tlubulldogs.com
