Five Texas Lutheran student-athletes among SCAC honorees on All-Sportsmanship Teams

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran student-athletes Christopher Torres (men's cross country), Jocee Bennett (women's cross country), Cole Welker (men's soccer), Rebecca Rivas (women's soccer), and Peyton Sulak (women's volleyball) are among the 47 honorees on the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Sportsmanship Teams.
 
The SCAC today announced its 12th annual fall All-Sportsmanship teams. 

The SCAC places a special emphasis on sportsmanship each year and asks all fans of the conference to exhibit good sportsmanship at all conference functions throughout the 2019-20 season.

Each head coach was asked to elect one member from his or her team who displayed good sportsmanship throughout the season.
 
Torres, a senior from San Antonio (Warren), has lettered in both men's cross country and men's track & field in his Bulldog career. With the cross country team this year, Torres finished 53rd individually at the conference championship meet with an 8K time of 31 minutes, 21.40 seconds.
 
Bennett, a senior from Cuero (Cuero), has lettered in women's cross country and women's track and field. This year, she helped the Bulldogs to a fourth-place team finish in the conference championships with an individual showing of 48th. She crossed the finish line of the 6K race with a time of 29:11.70.
 
Welker, a senior from San Antonio (O'Connor), was a key player for the Bulldogs in their SCAC Championship run. Welker, a midfielder, played in 20 matches and made 19 starts for the Bulldogs in the midfield. He registered a goal and five assists and led TLU to its second-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship (first round).
 
Rivas, a senior from Waxahachie (Waxahachie), earned her second varsity letter with the women's soccer team. Rivas appeared in 12 matches in 2019 and scored one goal. Rivas and the Bulldogs qualified for the SCAC Championship tournament and finished their season in the SCAC quarterfinal round.
 
Sulak, a sophomore from Needville (Needville), helped the Bulldogs to an 11-win improvement in 2019 from the 2018 season. Sulak increased her individual kill total by 146 (246 to 100) and her block total by 49 (93 to 44). She also jumped her hitting percentage up to .273 from .199 last season. The Bulldogs won 20 matches, played in the SCAC Championship tournament, and ended their season in the tournament's quarterfinal round.
