Chew, Kallus, and Nedd Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

SEGUIN, Texas -- Three Texas Lutheran volleyball student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC)) Academic All-District team, the organization announced Tuesday morning.

Setter Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair), middle blocker Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), and outside hitter Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) each received the honor that recognizes the nation's top student athletes for performance both on the court and in the classroom.

To qualify for nomination, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and compete in 90 percent of the institution's sets played or start in at least 66 percent of the school's total matches during the 2023 season.

Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Student-athletes selected as finalists to advance to the national ballot are designated with an asterisk. Those who are selected for first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024. Chew, Kallus, and Nedd were each selected to advance to the national ballot.

A Kinesiology major with a focus in Teaching and Coaching, Chew earns her second Academic All-District honor by maintaining a 3.70 GPA. The junior setter tallied TLU's second-most assists (475) and third-most digs (254) and service aces (30). Chew carded double-digits in eleven matches this season.

Kallus, who will graduate from Texas Lutheran in December, is a Kinesiology major with a focus in Exercise Science who holds a 3.51 GPA. The senior middle-blocker was named All-SCAC Second Team, earning All-SCAC honors for the first time in her career, Kallus ranked seventh in the SCAC in solo blocks with 13 and ninth in hitting percentage at .265 on the season. Kallus led the Bulldogs with a career-high 61 blocks and ranked fourth on the team with 28 service aces. Kallus also finished third on the team in kills with 218 and second with 283 points on the season.

A Communications major, Nedd holds a 3.90 GPA. The junior outside hitter ranked second on the Bulldogs with 242 kills, averaging 2.24 kills per set, and 268 points, hitting .165 ini 2023. Nedd recorded double-digit kills in nine matches in 2023.
