No. 2 Seed TLU: SCAC Semifinal Preview

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran volleyball team opens postseason play with the semifinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Conference Tournament Friday night versus either No.3 Colorado College or No. 6 Southwestern. The SCAC Tournament is a single-elimination tournament. The winner of the match will compete in the 2023 SCAC Championship on Saturday at 11 AM.   • Texas Lutheran won both regular season matchups against the Colorado College Tigers in five set thrillers while splitting the regular season series with Southwestern in 2023. Texas Lutheran met the Tigers in the 2023 SCAC Tournament Championship - defeating the Tigers in four sets for their first SCAC Championship.
  • Texas Lutheran is making its fifth straight appearance in the SCAC Tournament and tenth appearance overall - with the 2018 season being the only season missing the tournament since joining the SCAC in 2013. The Bulldogs are 8-12 overall (.400) in SCAC Tournament play and seeking their second consecutive SCAC Championship appearance.
  • The 2023 season saw the Bulldogs build upon the foundation set in the 2022 season - reaching double digit SCAC wins for the second consecutive season with a program record 12 SCAC wins. The Bulldogs eclipse 20 wins for the second consecutive season as the Bulldogs pursue their second consecutive NCCAA Tournament appearance.
  • Junior setter/outside hitter Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) is ninth in NCAA Division-III with four triple doubles on the season.
  • Junior libero Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) is 16th in NCAA Division-III in digs with 583 on the season.
  • For the second consecutive season, Texas Lutheran had five players earn All-SCAC honors with Shavonne Respondek and Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) earning First Team honors and Faith Coldewey, Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), and Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) earning Second Team honors.
  • Texas Lutheran currently leads NCAA Division-III in digs per set (21.70), attacks per set (42.00), and total digs (2,300) while ranking fifth in total attacks (4,452).

OUT OF THE BOX

  • Colorado College is led by outside hitter Isabella Lipacis - who finished third in the SCAC in kills per set - and setter Jenny Jenks - both All-SCAC First Team honorees. The Tigers enter the SCAC Tournament on a six match win streak including a sweep of No. 13 Trinity on Oct. 28. The Southwestern Pirates, the hosts of the 2023 SCAC Tournament, enter the tournament on a three match win streak and are led by defensive specialist Geneva Nedrow. The Tigers swept their regular season matchups with the Pirates.
  • If the Bulldogs win their Friday night matchup, they will set up a championship match on Saturday, Nov. 11, against Trinity, St. Thomas, or Schreiner at 11 AM at the Robertson Center.
