TLU Volleyball Sweeps Dallas

SHERMAN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball cruised to their 15th sweep of the season, beating Dallas 25-21, 25-15, 25-16, Sunday afternoon at Hughey Gymnasium on the campus of Austin College.

The 15 sweeps is one shy of matching the most for the Bulldogs (21-7, 11-4 SCAC) in a single-season since joining the SCAC in 2013, only trailing the 16 sweeps by the 2014 squad.

Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) and Emily Mixon (Woodville/Woodvilel) finished with eight kills each. Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) finished with seven kills and added four blocks and five digs. Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) had five kills and matched her career-high with five blocks.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) had her 25th double-double of the season with 18 digs and 13 assists, while adding two kills, two blocks and a service ace. Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) dished out a team-high 15 assists.

Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) led the defense with 23 digs while also adding three aces. Richelle Guerra (Brownsville/Rivera Early College) added ten digs.

The Bulldogs fell into a 10-6 hole to start the opening set before rallying to take the set 25-21. An 11-4 run throughout the middle of the set swung the momentum in TLU's favor. Kallus finished the set with a team-high four kills.

TLU led from start to finish in the second set, winning it 25-15, to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Bulldogs hit .316 in the set and held the Crusaders to a .150 hitting percentage. Mixon dominated the second set with six kills.

The Bulldogs held a narrow 5-4 lead to start the third set before rattling off a 13-5 run to take a commanding 18-10 lead in the set before putting the match away for good. After a mostly dormant block in the first two sets, the Bulldogs would record six blocks in the final set led by five from Powell.

The Bulldogs will close out the regular season at St. Thomas on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
