TLU's Lexi Morris named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Volleyball libero Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for matches played from Friday, Aug. 30 through Monday, Sept. 2.

Morris made starts at libero in her first four collegiate matches, and the first-year player responded with 57 total digs as TLU went 3-1 at its own Bulldog Challenge - the best start to a season for the program since 2015.

Morris averaged 4.38 digs per set, and she had 16 in the three-set win over Sul Ross State. Morris also served 10 aces in the four matches.

Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior defensive specialist Sami Lin of Trinity led the 17th-ranked Tigers to a 4-0 record at its National Invitational Tournament, including two victories over nationally-ranked opponents. Lin was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts, which included double-digit digs in all four Tiger victories. Her best effort came in the tournament finale against #25 Saint Benedict. In a match that determined the tournament champion, Lin finished with 17 digs, eight assists, and a match-leading five service aces. Sophomore libero Ali Grona of Southwestern, in her debut weekend as the team's libero, totaled 52 digs, averaging 4.33 per set. She keyed a defense that limited Hardin-Simmons to a .039 hitting percentage and Whittier to a .000 hitting percentage. Sophomore libero Mari Prazak of Austin College had a huge weekend defensively for the 'Roos, totaling 104 digs in four matches, averaging 6.12 per-set. She also had 16 assists and six service aces. Sophomore middle hitter Georgia Mullins of Colorado College led the Tigers with a .393 attack percentage and eight total blocks as CC went 3-1 at its own classic over the Labor Day weekend. Mullins, who also chipped in with 11 digs, had a career-high 13 kills and a match-high .571 hitting percentage in the four-set win over UW-Oshkosh. She had a hand in three blocks in the five-set loss to Clarkson, when the Tigers finished the match without three starters, and the four-set slugfest against UW-Oshkosh in the final match of the tournament.
