Texas Lutheran closes out season with SCAC quarterfinal loss to Southwestern

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Volleyball closed out its 2019 season with a three-set loss to Southwestern in the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship quarterfinal round.
 
In TLU's Memorial Gymnasium (Jim Shuler Court), No. 3 seed Southwestern defeated No. 6 seed TLU 25-22, 25-23, 26-24 to advance to the SCAC semifinal.
 
The Pirates will face No. 2 seed Colorado College at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Top-seed Trinity will play No. 5 seed Austin College in the first semifinal, set for noon Saturday. Austin defeated University of Dallas in five sets in the first quarterfinal.
 
Against Southwestern, TLU was held to .045 hitting percentage. The Pirates limited TLU to 31 kills and forced 25 errors. Southwestern had seven total blocks.
 
Southwestern hit .129 for the match. Riely Brantley led the Pirates with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .391. She added six block assists.
 
Ali Grona delivered 23 assists for the Pirates, and Lauren Crabtree recorded 10 kills and 17 digs.
 
TLU received 10 kills from Kacie Hall, 14 assists from Jaci Chambers, and 19 digs from Lexi Morris.
 
Peyton Sulak collected five total blocks, and Chambers added 18 digs and a service ace.
 
The match was the final collegiate contest for three TLU seniors: Kelsi Menn, Bryten Mitchan, and Chambers.
 
TLU won 11 more matches than last season and finished the year with an overall record of 20-17.
 
Southwestern improved to 22-13.
