Southwestern holds off Texas Lutheran in four sets in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Southwestern Pirates moved to 4-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a four-set win Tuesday night over the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs.
 
The Pirates won 25-15, 20-25, 28-26, 25-22.
 
Southwestern improved to 11-6 overall. TLU dropped to 9-9 overall and to 2-3 in the SCAC.
 
After TLU evened the match at a set apiece, the Bulldogs took leads of 18-15, 20-17, and 21-18 in the third set. TLU had a set point at 24-23 after a kill from Bryten Mitchan off an assist from Jaci Chambers.
 
The set point went away after a service error, and Southwestern converted on its third set point with a kill from Lauren Crabtree.
 
TLU knotted the fourth set at 19-19, but the Pirates closed out the match with a 6-3 run. Landri Brown recorded the kill on match point.
 
TLU hit .179 for the match with 46 kills and 20 errors on 179 attempts. Southwestern hit .207 with 63 kills and 24 errors on 188 attempts.
 
The Pirates registered 107 digs, with Elleana McGown and Ali Grona each posting 27 digs. Crabtree and Jess Mayer each delivered 27 assists.
 
Mitchan led TLU with 17 kills on 41 attempts. She hit .293 for the match.
 
Chambers and Adrienne Galaviz tallied 17 and 16 assists, respectively, and Lexi Morris and Chambers collected 25 and 20 digs, respectively.
 
Madison Weisinger recorded three block assists for the Bulldogs, and Peyton Sulak, Mitchan and Savhannah Kitchens each had two block assists.
 
TLU plays three conference matches this weekend in Kerrville, Texas at the SCAC Crossover. The Bulldogs face Centenary (3 p.m.) and University of Dallas (7 p.m.) on Saturday and play nationally-ranked Colorado College at 2 p.m. Sunday.
