Texas Lutheran rolls to three-set conference victory against St. Thomas (Texas)

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs held St. Thomas to a negative hitting percentage and cruised to a three-set Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Wednesday night over the University of St. Thomas (Texas).
 
The Bulldogs defeated the Celts 25-18, 25-15 ,25-14 in TLU's Memorial Gymnasium (Jim Shuler Court). St. Thomas hit -.024 with 16 kills and 19 errors on 125 attempts.
 
TLU improved to 9-8 overall and to 2-2 in the SCAC. St. Thomas dropped to 3-8 overall and to 1-4 in the SCAC.
 
Wednesday's match originally was set to be played in Denver at the SCAC Cross-Divisional at Johnson & Wales University. But the Celts travel plans were altered by the rain and weather in the Houston area, the two St. Thomas matches (against Trinity and TLU) were moved to Seguin. Trinity defeated St. Thomas in four sets in the 4:15 p.m. contest.
 
In the 6:15 p.m. match, the first women's volleyball conference meeting between TLU and St. Thomas, the Bulldogs received 11 kills from Bryten Mitchan (San Antonio/Highlands) and eight kills from Cailey Young (New Braunfels/New Braunfels).
 
Mitchan, a senior outside hitter, hit .323 for the match with her 11 kills coming on 31 attempts. She made just one error.
 
Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) registered 26 digs, and Jaci Chamber delivered 20 assists and grabbed nine digs.
 
Paige Day had 15 digs, four kills, and two aces.
 
TLU continues conference play Tuesday with a road match at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. The match is set for 6 p.m. in Southwestern's Robertson Center.
