Bulldogs roll to pair of victories at Hendrix College Invitational

CONWAY, Ark. -- Texas Lutheran posted 3-0 and 3-1 victories over Howard Payne and Huntingdon (Alab.), respectively, Saturday at the Hendrix College (Ark.) Invitational.

TLU opened the tournament with a 25-12, 25-8, 25-12 victory over the Yellow Jackets and then defeated the Hawks 25-12, 25-20, 24-26, 25-14.

The Bulldogs improved to 6-5 overall. Huntingdon dropped to 5-7 after the loss to TLU. HPU fell to 1-7 with the setback to the Bulldogs.

Against HPU, TLU held the Yellow Jackets to -.060 hitting percentage. The Yellow Jackets had just 15 kills and made 21 errors.

TLU hit .316 against HPU and had 40 kills and only 10 errors on 95 attempts.

The Bulldogs were led in the three-set victory by Paige Day, who had seven kills and a hitting percentage of .385. Day also had 12 digs.

Trisha Pittman and Kacie Hall each had six kills against HPU.

In the four-set victory over Huntingdon, Day and Peyton Sulak each had 10 kills, and Bryten Mitchan added seven. Lexi Morris and Jaci Chambers each recorded 14 digs, and Chambers had 29 assists and four aces.

TLU concludes the Hendrix tournament Sunday with a 10 a.m. match against Rhodes College (Tenn.).
