Texas Lutheran downs Whittier in three to get Saturday split at Cal Lu Fornia Invitational

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Texas Lutheran Women's Volleyball defeated the Whittier (Calif.) Poets in three sets - 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 - to split the two matches Saturday at the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational, hosted by California Lutheran University.

The Bulldogs fell in three sets earlier in the day to Chapman (Calif.), 25-15, 25-21, 25-13.

TLU's went 1-3 at the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational. The Bulldogs are 4-4 overall.

Against Whittier, Cailey Young led a balanced attack. Young recorded eight kills, two aces, and eight digs.

Madison Weisinger and Peyton Sulak each had seven kills against the Poets, and Katelyn Sexton notched six kills.

Jaci Chambers and Kelly Jurden each recorded 16 assists, and Lexi Morris contributed 18 digs.

TLU hit .205 for the match and held Whittier to .106. The Bulldogs had nine total blocks against the Poets. Weisinger had five block assists, and Kacie Hall produced a block solo and four blocks assists.

Against Chapman, the Bulldogs were held to a .068 hitting percentage. Chapman hit .300.

Sulak led TLU in kills, with six. Morris added 14 digs, and Jurden distributed 12 assists. Sulak collected three block assists.

TLU continues its non-conference schedule with a 6 p.m. road match Tuesday at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.
