Volleyball falls in three to Southwestern


SHREVEPORT, La. -- Southwestern University handed the Texas Lutheran women's volleyball team a 25-22, 25-16, 25-20 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference defeat Saturday afternoon in Shreveport, La. 

Southwestern moved to 16-10 overall and to 11-3 in the SCAC. 

TLU fell to 8-20 overall and to 5-9 in conference. 

Cailey Young (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) and Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) led the Bulldogs in kills with nine and eight, respectively. Weisinger added two aces and four digs, and Young posted one solo block. 

Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) collected the only other solo block of the match to go along with her four kills, two digs and a serving ace. 

Kelly Jurden (Brenham/Brenham) recorded 23 assists and 10 digs, and Jaci Chambers (Baytown/Goose Creek Memorial) collected a team-best 19 digs. 

The Bulldogs turnaround and have key conference matches tomorrow as they complete regular season play. TLU plays tournament host Centenary College at 10 a.m. and Austin College at 2 p.m.

TLU is a game behind Austin College in the loss column in the SCAC standings.
