Volleyball defeats Dallas in four


SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Volleyball squad finished the weekend 2-1, defeating University of Dallas in four (25-23, 16-25, 27-25, 25-21) at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference A-C Crossover hosted by Trinity University.

The Bulldogs split day one, dropping a three-setter to No. 4 Colorado College before sweeping Johnson & Wales (Colo.) in three. 

TLU moved to 8-18 on the year and 5-8 in conference play. The Crusaders dropped to 17-11 overall and to 6-7 in the SCAC. 

Sophomore middle blocker Cailey Young (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) and freshmen Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) led the offense with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Sulak recorded six digs to go along with two block assists and a serving ace. 

The Bulldogs posted six total blocks to UD's two. Freshmen outside Savhannah Kitchens (Inez/Industrial) collected the only solo block of the match along with two block asissts. She also added seven kills. 

Sophomore setter Kelly Jurden (Brenham/Brenham) dished out her tenth double-double, registering a season-best 38 assists and 17 digs. Jurden served up one ace and threw in a kill for good measure. 

On defense, junior libero Jaci Chambers (Baytown/Goose Creek Memorial) picked up 21 digs. Sophomore Remy Corbin (Austin/Westwood) added 17 digs and a serving ace, while freshmen Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) collected 11 digs of her own.

Junior Kelsi Menn (San Antonio/Roosevelt) had another excellent performance, hitting a .545 with six kills on 11 attempts and not a single error. 

The Bulldogs take a break from SCAC play as they head to Brownwood, Texas on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. non-conference matchup against Howard Payne University.
