Bulldogs split day one of SCAC Crossover in San Antonio


SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Volleyball squad split a pair of matches in the first day of the SCAC A-C Crossover hosted by Trinity University on Saturday. 

At Calgaard Gymnasium, the Bulldogs dropped a three-setter (25-16, 25-14, 25-22) to No. 4-ranked Colorado College, before closing the day with a sweep (25-23, 25-22, 25-9) over Johnon & Wales (Colo.). 

TLU will wrap up the crossover tomorrow morning with a 10 a.m. match against University of Dallas.

In the morning matchup against the Tigers, Kelly Jurden dished out 23 assists and 13 digs to record her ninth double-double of the season. 

Freshmen Savhannah Kitchens led the team with six kills. Bryten Mitchan added four kills and posted the only solo block of the match. 

Jaci Chambers led the way with 16 digs. She added two assists and served up one ace for good measure.

In the afternoon match against JWU, Madison Weisinger came out swinging to lead the squad with 10 kills. Weisinger added five digs and a block assist. 

Weisinger was also one of three Bulldogs to post two serving aces in the match. Kacie Hall and Remy Corbin recorded the remaining four (two each) aces. 

Kelsi Menn had an outstanding performance also against the Wildcats. Menn tallied nine kills, hitting .643 with no errors. Kitchens added five kills, three digs and two blocks (1 solo, 1 assist). 

Jurden accounted for 33 assists and eight digs. Chambers led once again in the back row, recording 20 digs. She added a kill and four assists.

TLU's overall record is now 7-18 with a conference mark of 4-8.
